IGP: Where Discipline Meets Drive

What is IGP?

IGP, formerly known as Schutzhund, is a highly respected international dog sport from Germany. It's a comprehensive test evaluating a dog's natural abilities, trainability, and temperament as a working companion.

The sport has three distinct, challenging phases, all demanding intense focus and a strong handler-dog partnership:

  1. Tracking (Phase A): The dog meticulously follows a human scent trail, locating small articles across various terrains.

  2. Obedience (Phase B): Precise, enthusiastic execution of off-leash commands, including heeling, retrieves, and "in-motion" exercises.

  3. Protection (Phase C): Assesses the dog's courage and control against a "decoy" (person in a bite suit), involving searching, guarding, and controlled engagements with instant releases.

IGP showcases a dog's intelligence, athleticism, and the unbreakable bond forged through rigorous training.

Amanda Hoskins

I have been involved in our sport since 1990 — over three decades of dedication to training, competing, and mentoring. During that time, I have titled more than ten dogs to their highest levels and have assisted numerous handlers in earning titles with dogs across a variety of breeds.

I competed in nineteen consecutive LV/DVG America Championships, earning the opportunity to represent in the 2005 DHV Championship in Germany. I held the USRC National Championship title for two years and have competed in three AWDF Championships, two GSDCA Championships, and five IFR World Championships.

My judging career began in 2011. Since then, I have judged more than 70 club trials and have had the privilege of officiating at multiple LV/DVG America Championships, as well as championships for AWMA, UDC, USRC, WRSF, AWDF and The Dutch Rottweiler Klub.

I am honored to officiate at this year’s Championship and wish all competitors the very best of success.

derrike lacross

My name is Derrike Lacross. I have been doing Nationals for AWDF, AWMA and USCA for the Past years. My passion and love for Sports and Animals perfectly culminates in IGP.

I started in the sport because i had a Boxer who needed to be challenged and I’m sad i never get to work him, BUT i know he sent me down this path and had plans for my life that he wouldn’t get to personally see but wanted for me.

Ive had the pleasure of working 2 World Champions (and a Vice world Champion) on their way to those trials. I believe it’s important to Test the dogs with as much pressure they would see at any level BUT with safety put first so the dogs can compete at higher levels while at their very best.

This is what i pride myself on and I look forward to sharing the field with everyone.

Best wishes and Good Luck!

Ray harris

My name is Ray Harris, I am the training Director/Helper for my club Alpha and Omega Working Dog Club located in NJ.

I started out in the sport of Schutzhund as a competitor in 2009 with my American Bulldogs. From then on, I grew to love the sport so much as a competitor that I wanted to learn to become a helper. In 2014, I met my mentor John Bochenek of Metro-Detroit Schutzhund Club in Milan Michigan. I spent months of training with John to learn the mechanics of helper work. In 2015 I was given the green light to classify at Metro-Detroit Schutzhund club helper seminar.  After becoming classified as a helper, i started doing helper work for multiple local clubs. In 2016, I started Alpha and Omega Working Dog Club  under USCA which is open to all breeds. Since starting the club and being the trial helper, it has opened doors to doing other clubs trial helper work in other region.

With the amount of Dogs added in my helper book, I was able to move up in classification. In 2021, I classified as a regional helper. In 2023, I was able to move up in classification from Regional to National Helper under USCA. In 2025 i was approved to apprentice as a Teaching Helper for USCA.

I want to take the time to thank the organization for selecting me as the helper for UDC Nationals.
